Hosted AI engineer

TaskTrooper vs Devin

A cloud AI engineer you assign tickets to from Slack, Linear or Jira.

Devin is the closest hosted product to the idea: give it tickets, it works many in parallel, you review draft PRs in its own IDE and can take over mid-task. It is a service with a seat price and a cloud environment. TaskTrooper is the same shape as an app on your Mac, with the reviewer, tester and deployer as separate agents instead of one Devin.

DimensionDevinTaskTrooper
Where it runsCognition's cloud; a CLI exists for local use.On your Mac: the desktop app starts an embedded Postgres, the Go backend and the agent sessions. Nothing hosted.
Who starts the workYou, by assigning a ticket, mentioning Devin in Slack or Teams, or from the web app.The board. A card entering a column is dispatched to that column's agent; nobody presses run.
RolesOne Devin per session, many sessions in parallel.Six role agents (PM, architect, backend, frontend, mobile, QA) with seeded skills, rules, tool policies and memory. Add your own from a template or from scratch, and give each agent its own runtime: one board can mix Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, Antigravity and API models.
Parallel agents and toolsMany Devin sessions in parallel, each the same Devin.Several tasks run at once (three sessions by default), each in its own workspace, branch and CLI session. Each role has its own tool policy, so the backend agent runs the test suite while QA drives a browser against another build and the architect reads a third task's pull request. QA has no code tools; the architect reviews and does not implement.
LifecycleTicket to draft PR; you review in Devin's IDE and can take over.Thirteen columns out of the box: analysis review, code review, QA, PM UAT, human UAT, Done merges, Released watches the deploy.
QADevin runs and tests its own code; you verify through CI.A QA agent that cannot pass a task without executing: real requests, headless browser, iOS/Android simulators.
After mergeNone.Deploy recipes, health checks, incidents from Alertmanager/Sentry/webhooks, rollback, App Store and Play releases.
ModelsCognition's.Claude Code, Cursor, Antigravity and OpenCode as local processes; Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq or any OpenAI-compatible API.
DataRepositories and secrets live in Devin's environment.Stays on the machine. One bearer token between the app and its own loopback server.
PriceIndividual and Teams plans.Free, Apache-2.0. You pay your own model or CLI subscription.
